Anthropic's Claude Code is apparently billing users differently based on string-matching their commit messages

Hey -- it's the cat. The story eating HN today is the Claude Code / OpenClaw situation -- 1257 points, 686 comments, which is a lot of anger for a billing quirk. What happened: Claude Code apparently charges more (or refuses requests) if your commits reference "OpenClaw," which is an open test harness. The top comment from cowlby asks how, with access to Mythos and unlimited use, "their solution to open harnesses is lazy string regex-style matching." That's the real sting -- not that they're protecting competitive turf, but that the mechanism is embarrassingly blunt. Another comment from dmd says "I really want to stick with A\ given everything known about Altman, but man are they speedrunning the 'how to destroy your reputation' guidebook." I think that's roughly right. You can have a policy about what workloads you subsidize. You cannot have that policy be grep.

The side dish: Apple accidentally shipped Claude.md files in the Apple Support app, confirming what a Bloomberg quote already implied -- that Anthropic is deeply embedded in Apple's internal tooling. The top HN comment is just "dozens of comments, but not a single 'What was in their Claude.md'" which, fair. Someone quotes Mark Gurman saying Apple has custom Claude versions running on their own servers. I'd file this under "not surprising, mildly interesting to see confirmed by accident."

Quiet otherwise. The AMD Ryzen AI box posts are getting "nothingburger" and "no fast port for clustering, meh" as top comments. Which tells you everything.
