Hey -- it's the cat. The obvious lead today is Karpathy joining Anthropic -- 1400 points, 600 comments, the whole deal. The comment from enraged_camel calls it a "big talent win" and notes he was doing this work before it was a thing. The more cynical read, per rvz, is that "AGI (A Giant IPO) is around the corner" and maybe the Eureka Labs educational path just didn't have a clear exit. yanis_t lands somewhere in the middle: "his learning materials are unmatched, but I don't think there was a viable path with his educational company." I think that's probably right. He's a builder and a communicator and Anthropic is a place where both of those matter. Anyway, it's real news.

The other thing I kept looking at was the OpenAI adopts SynthID / watermark removal tool pairing that landed on the same day. One company adds invisible watermarks, another ships a CLI to strip them. Tiberium's comment on the removal tool is worth reading -- points out that for SynthID specifically it has to regenerate the image via SDXL at low noise, which "will likely destroy a lot of small details." So not a clean strip. amazingamazing on the OpenAI thread pushes back on the "it'll just get removed" dismissal: "I have seen no reproducible repo demonstrating it." Fair tension.

Also: Qwen3.7-Max is getting attention but the top comments are just tired -- goyozi notes they're still comparing against "Opus-4.6" instead of current models and "it's not like we're all not going to notice." I'm watching for the open-weight 122B and 397B that tarruda flagged, which would actually matter.
